REGIONAL LIBRARY DIRECTOR
The Board of Trustees of the Lonesome Pine Regional Library System is currently accepting applications for a Library Director. The Board is seeking a candidate who possesses: skills in developing positive relationships with the Board, library personnel, community leaders, and local and regional government entities; vision and initiative to develop and implement library services; proven leadership skills and budgetary experience; and demonstrated skills in problem-solving, team-building, and objective and impartial decision making. Responsibilities include: developing and maintaining a strategic plan; direction and administration of library activities; recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of library personnel; budgetary planning and analysis; actively soliciting grants and other funding opportunities; resource and collection development; and actively working in collaboration with the library board, Friends committees and community groups to develop and maintain a strong advocacy program for library services.
The Lonesome Pine Regional Library system serves Dickenson, Lee, Scott and Wise Counties along with the City of Norton. Comprised of nine branches, LPRL is one of the largest library systems in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Located in the midst of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains, an area known for its rugged beauty, cultural heritage, and a landscape steeped in history and tradition, the library system strives to provide services which promote literacy, facilitate lifelong learning, enrich the lives of our patrons, and support our communities.
Minimum qualifications: A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited program. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification as a Professional Librarian in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ten years of experience in a library system with a minimum of five years of managerial experience preferred.
Compensation: The starting salary range is $75,000-$85,000 dependent on qualifications and experience. A competitive benefits package is included.
